Hi! I’m Collin Parsons (she/her/hers), the Doula behind Doula Differently. Let me start by saying even though we aren’t currently meeting face to face, I’m still really happy you’re here. Seriously. You’ve made it to the part where I talk about myself. To be honest, talking about my experience, specialties, and credentials has always made me really uncomfortable. I’d much rather give you the ole ‘Razzle Dazzle’ with my witty charm and vivacious personality. But alas, since you are looking at my website, that isn’t currently an option. So prepare to be virtually Razzle Dazzled. Oh yeah, jazz hands and all!

I’m currently a Dona International Certified Doula (CD). I am also in the early stages of cross-certifying with two additional organizations focused on Pregnancy, Labor and Birth, and Postpartum.  Although I attended my first birth as the primary support person at just 16, I have seen myself grow exponentially in the past 13 years. I specialize in medicated and natural births and believe they are both outstandingly beautiful. I also specialize in working with LGBTQ+  families. I am obsessed with multiples as a result of my younger twin siblings, Claire and Cooper. Thankfully, my obsession has led me to experience some amazing twin and triplet births (still crossing fingers for quads one day!). I also fully support and love those who birth their babies from their bellies. I have been trained in a variety of comfort measure techniques including, rebozo, acupressure, massage, guided meditation, and aromatherapy. I am a certified Hypnobabies Hypno-Doula. Additionally, I have significant experience with clients using other forms of Hypnosis for birth.

I have a fierce desire to help women who struggle with walking a unique fertility path. As the first Fertility Doula in Charlotte, NC, I know just how much support surrounding fertility complications and infertility is needed in our community. I have recently started organizing a collective of doulas committed to offering support to families and individuals undergoing any fertility assistance. Fertility work has led me to find passion in also supporting families with surrogates and those going through surrogacy.

Breastfeeding, pumping, supplementing, and formula feeding are all journeys that I’m in full support of and have significant experience with. I also love incorporating my talent and love of art with my clients. Belly casting and custom art pieces are as therapeutic for me as it is joyful for the families who receive them.

I’ve always loved supporting women. Like the deeply and passionately really truly type of love. There is nothing that has ever compared  to feeling like I’m living my purpose. I was on the fast track to get my Associates in Nursing. It was going to be swiftly followed by my BSN. The final step was to place a big red bow on everything with my specialty in Midwifery. It wasn’t until I was talking to a friend about supporting her in her natural hospital birth that I thought about actually certifying. She asked why I’d never gotten around to making a career out of the thing I love so much. Confused, I looked at her and said ‘ I am. I’m going to catch babies.’ She looked at me and said ‘Why would you want to catch the babies when your favorite part is helping the birthing person having those babies?’ Something clicked within me. I dropped out of nursing school, started pursing my degree in psychology and women’s studies, and began living my official doula dream. I’d still love to catch a baby one day but there’s no where else I’d rather be.

Being a doula isn’t what I am meant to do. Being a doula is what I was born to do.
